This is part of a new series exploring Google Earth uses for different professions/hobbies.
If you're a pilot, there are many ways Google Earth can be used to really enhance your trip plans both from an aviation and ground-based perspective. But, Google Earth goes way beyond just trip planning as a tool for pilots. I'm a pilot myself, and have been using Google Earth to enhance my flying experiences for nearly three years.
How to Get 3D Buildings in Google Earth Flight Simulator
1. Enter Flight Simulator mode - Select "Tools->Enter Flight Simulator". Optional: fly to a city which has 3D buildings (tip: San Francisco, Baltimore, Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte - these all have lots of 3D buildings). NOTE: - there is a bug in GE 4.3 if you select the "Current View" option in the "Enter Flight Simulator" window, you may end up at an higher altitude than you expect upon starting the flight (much higher). Just fly back down to the city level.
2. Open the Sidebar - Sidebar shortcut - Press 'Ctrl Alt B' (or Option B' on the Mac) to bring up the sidebar
3. Turn on 3D Buildings - Turn these on in the Layers pane in the lower left after the sidebar opens.
4. Turn Off Sidebar - IMPORTANT - before resuming the flight simulator, turn off the sidebar by hitting the sidebar shortcut from step 2
5. Resume flight - Now you can resume flying the flight simulator by hitting the SPACE key and the 3D buildings should stay on for your current flight.

Since many seem to have trouble installing this, here's what you need to do to get it working.
1. Note: Disable UAC first if you're using Vista!
2. Uninstall NOD32 completely! That includes previous fixes and everything related!. I recommend using Your Uninstaller! to remove it. If you didn't get this pre-cracked version working on the first try then uninstall it!
3. If it asks you to restart after uninstalling do not restart yet! Let Your Uninstaller! remove the registry keys and everything. After that restart manually from the start menu!
4. Install this version. When asked check set update parameters later.
5. If the setup asks you to restart after installing DO NOT RESTART! Click No instead!
6. Restart manually from the start menu

The Avira Premium Security Suite does a great job of detecting malicious software--arguably a security suite's most important task. But it doesn't do much else. Its firewall didn't completely protect our Vista test PC, for example, and the suite entirely lacks such features as Web antiphishing measures and parental controls.
Avira did shine at blocking security threats in our "All-in-One Security Suites: Tried and Tested" roundup of security suites. It halted 98 percent of the 674, 589 samples in AV-Test.org's zoo of malicious software, just a hair behind the top performer, BitDefender Internet Security 2008. It also did well at identifying unknown malware in tests that pit programs with one-month-old virus databases against new malware such as Trojan horses and keyloggers. It caught 21 percent of such threats, again second only to BitDefender.
Another high point was Avira's record at detecting spyware and adware, where it proved second to none, identifying 97 percent of such malicious files. It was fast, too: Only Symantec Norton Internet Security 2008 beat out Avira's scan rate of 10.33 megabytes per second for user-initiated scans. Regrettably, Avira's scanning lacked scope: It doesn't scan IM traffic at all, and it checks only inbound e-mail messages over the POP3 protocol.
